The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) is an independent, public, state-owned, non-profit, coeducational institution in the United Arab Emirates that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees. AURAK provides comprehensive academic programs based on the North American model and the cultural characteristics of the Gulf region. AURAK has been officially licensed by the UAE’s Ministry of Education. All of the University’s 22 academic programs are accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA). In addition, AURAK is accredited with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). All instruction at the university is in English.
The School of Business offers currently offers five undergraduate programs (BS in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Finance, Accounting, and Marketing) but is seeking CAA approval to consolidate these into a single Bachelor of Business Administration with specialist majors in Human Resource Management, Finance, Accounting, and Marketing. It also offers two graduate programs (MBA and Executive MBA). The school has been granted eligibility to pursue accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and achieved the first milestone in its journey to initial accreditation with the acceptance of its Initial Self Evaluation report in June 2019.
We invite applications for the following faculty position for Fall 2020: Director of Graduate Programs
The person appointed to this position will be responsible for Graduate Programs in the School of Business. These currently include MBA and EMBA programs, but the School will be looking to the Director to lead the development of innovative new graduate programs. The Director will also lead the CAA accreditation or reaccreditation process for these programs. The Director should be credentialed to teach at the graduate level in Accounting but preference will be given to applicants who are credentialed to teach both Accounting and Finance courses. Since graduate teaching is over the weekend, the Director will need to schedule week-day times for program marketing and curriculum development, as well as professional development for faculty. In addition to demonstrating the potential for teaching excellence, the faculty member hired to this position must be bilingual in English and Arabic so as to be maximally effective in recruitment of new students. All AURAK faculty must also engage in service to the university, the school and the community. The Director of Graduate Programs will be appointed at a faculty rank appropriate to the position (at least Associate Professor) and the individual’s experience and qualifications.
Qualifications and requirements:
(1) An earned doctorate in business with the appropriate specialization from an accredited university;
(2) A record of established research consistent with appointment at either the associate professor or professor rank;
(3) A history of successful university teaching experience in the specialization;
(4) A record of university or community service .
Located at the mouth of the Gulf, Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) was once the historical capital of the region. RAK boasts many outdoor attractions, with plenty of places for leisure, water sports, hiking and mountain climbing, and other athletic pursuits, all within a safe and family-oriented environment. Away from frenzied traffic and rush of the larger cities, but still well-developed, RAK is a quiet but vibrant Emirate. It is an ideal location, for both those who want to relax or be active away from work.
